Explore Kippford Village
The village of Kippford is only a 10 minute stroll downhill from our lodges. You can visit the local Ark gift shop for some locally-made ice cream, try a traditional home-cooked meal at the Anchor Hotel or have a few drinks in the beer garden at the Mariner Hotel and watch the sun go down over the yachts.
At the end of the village are two beautiful pebble beaches, sheltered by rock outcrops. One looks up the estuary towards the village, the other looking over the outer bay and islands. There are also plenty of little footpaths around the area, some of which leading up to higher ground, offering breathtaking views and some incredible photo opportunities.
Keep an eye out for rabbits and red squirrels, which make their home in and around Kippford and can sometimes be seen wandering among the woodland areas of our site, Kipp Paddock.
For a spot of golf, Craigieknowes 9-hole golf course is located just a few minutes walk from the lodges. There is also an 18-hole course at Colvend which is only a five minute drive away. Beginners and non-members are welcome at both.
Venture just out of Kippford and head to local cafe ‘Brambles’ for a coffee, where the chickens and ducks roam freely. When you reach Dalbeattie, a five minute drive from our lodges, grab lunch at the ‘Galloway Soup Company’. Items on the menu are made with local produce, which can also be purchased in their adjoining shop, ranging from fruit preserves and handmade crisps, to gins and beers, made in the local distilleries.
Dalbeattie also has plenty of small grocery stores for essentials, while Castle Douglas has larger supermarkets, to keep you going throughout your stay with us. We hope you have enjoyed a little tour around Kippford and the local surroundings. For more on things to do, a little further out of the village, check out our Adventuring page.
